Just so that we are clear, please note that signing online petitions doesn't mean anything if there is no matching advocacy. Timing of the activity is also very important. In the end, advocacy and grassroots effort must compliment each other at the same time. The website you are referring is an advertisement website. Its not a resource for serious advocacy effort.
The Congress is right now focused on DREAM Act. If we just say "Erase Green card backlog", it will mean nothing. But there is a chance if we send specific targeted message asking to include specific provisions in the bill that appear to be moving (i.e. DREAM Act in this case), and IV is complimenting this message with the advocacy on the ground.
Just sending random email from some online advertisement for profit website does not mean anything. We think that some of these websites are just collecting your Email and Home Address, which they could sell for making profit.
Immigration Voice would like to request its all members not to send out random messages from advertisement websites because such messages are out of sink with reality. Please participate in the well defined and targeted 'Action Items' on IV.

Well, it goes beyond that. This is a "complicated story with no sub titles".
IV website is a board where people of all kinds visit and there is no control over stuff. Just go to any blog site - we see 100 rants and crazy comments as against a few wise talk.
I guess we have to live with it and keep pushing people. Sometimes loud and sometimes gently.
My friend, it is to "push the people" that I am saying all this. How best can we push? Through word of mouth, or thru full campaign?
Another idea: How about restructuring the forums?

Another silent deshi employer here trying to scar H1s not to sue. I guess he created his ID (Join Date: Apr 2008) just for this.
Go and create another website in favour of deshi blood su&^%$rs called reverse-IV.org. Don't try to mock here.
i agree with u gc4me. he seems to be one among my employer's company. if u see, he has replied only for this post, nothing other than this post. except this issue, he doesn't seem to be interested in any other issues in this forum..earlier he said his friend paid $350 for evaluation of non compete and now he says he himself paid $350 to attorney. how can anyone be 9 yrs on
h1b. its only max of 6+ 7th yr extension. its not that i want to hear what i want to hear, but people come up here for genuine opinions of members here. so gcbikari(i doubt u r a desi emplyer), please dont use ur strategy of scaring the employees to death. that will spoil the whole essense of the forum.

Received our green cards today. Will continue to contribute to IV.
You can download the form from SSA website and fill the information for each applicant and take it to the SSA office. You can get rid of 'authorized to work with INS permit only' label of your SS card by using the same form and get a new card.
Take the forms, your PR card, old SS card. It just takes few minutes. They will take the info, shred the old cards, forms, etc. and will mail the cards to your address...Just check other thread ' Dos and Donts after GC' fo rmore info, and open a separate thread so as to not to mix up the original content of the thread...

1) EB2 with PD like 2007 and 2008 will certainly oppose. It is understandable. But why many EB3 folks themselves oppose it? Because they are with "looser mentality". EB3 folks, listen! No body cares about you. Then why do you care about other categories. Don't be a looser. Take care of your problem first.
2) The lawyer was suggesting us to convert to EB2. You bet. Dont you know why?
Most of the EB2 got their GC. The only loosers are EB3. With IV's reach it can easily help EB3. I told this many times before. But IV core is saying it will be very hard to even do a simplest releif measure. I simply do not understand. I hope and pray IV core will listen this time.

And worst is the lottery...What pisses me off is that there are 220,000 visa numbers every year for family based GCs while skilled immigrants get only 140,000. Nothing wrong with immigrants wanting to bring immediate family members but this is causing nothing but chain migration. I think USA give more GCs to cab drivers than skilled immigrants.

A lot of people can give you advice but I think it really comes down to making peace with yourself.
I have been thru the pain of being stuck in LC for over 4 years and I can completely sympathize with you. I know it can be really frustrating. I have been thru swings of optimisim and pessimism in those 4 years. Ultimately this is what I have realized, there is always a price to be paid in life if you want to achieve anything in life. It is upto each one of us to decide if GC is worth the various years of being stuck in same job, wife being stuck on H4 is the right price for GC or am I paying too much. For me personally, I think I am paying a big price but I am like a businessman who has invested so much money and time in his enterprise that he's afraid to drop the venture and start another business. Actually a lot of us fall in this category.
So look at it this way. Write down the price you are paying. Figure out if you still want to put your effort (and how much) in trying to get a GC. If you think its a venture that's not worth the outcome, there's your answer! If you think its worth the outcome but you are afraid you still may not get a GC, work on backup plan i.e. evaluate and apply for immigration to other western countries or evaluate and work on a plan to go back to your home country. Knowing the price and having alternate plans will give you peace of minds. More than anything else don't forget to have fun. A lot of times we get caught up in worrying about what might/might not happen in future and don't enjoy the present! Go out with your wife and have a fancy dinner every now and then ... do something spontaneous... Watch movies, listen to music, go bowling with friends ... whatever takes your mind off the routine!
I see a lot of guys telling everyone who is frustrated saying: Let your wife get her own H1, why don't you buy a house on H1, why don't you have kids? Well, its good to offer suggestions but don't get condescending. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a stable job that they can buy a house. Not everyone's wife is in IT and can get a desi co. to sponsor H1. Not everyone is at peace mentally enough that they can plan children.
Well, I am TOO depressed about the BEC performance. I know too many people are in same situation but I find myself "helpless" and at least i want to SCREAM......:mad:

I had taken an infopass appointment after filing an SR. All the IO said was I should call NSC. I don't think the IO's at the local USCIS office can issue FP notices.
Shall try again sometime this week or next and update the same here. I am a NSC->CSC->NSC transferee.

I have friedns who sufferd through the phase of not getting a job and had to go through the desi consultants.. they were in no way inferior to u or me.. plain bad luck.. u ask them to go to their home country is it... moron grow some brains

Getting a letter is not a big deal. What if I am a full time consultant in that company?

My wife got EAD approved on 16th Aug and I got my approved today. I do not know why 10 days of delay.
One thing I noticed is within last week or so, lot of people are receiving EADs and I485 processing is slowed down. I think now they are concentrating on EADs and come sept they will again jump to 485s. Just a guess!

So you were not referring to Employment Letter for GC job, rather Current Employment Letter while discussing how to file I-485.

The problem with this argument is it separates the members of the Family. If the marriage is occurred prior to approval of green card spouse will fall in EB category. If the marriage date is after approval of the green card it will fall into Family quota. See those guys who got married after green card and trying to bring their spouses how much trouble they are having. Instead of focusing on that You can Focus on the issue of making one EB visa number per family in case EB immigrant. Now Each one of the Spouse are using one number. That will effectively double the available visa numbers.
